Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Today we celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Our class enjoyed performing readers theaters to most classrooms K-7.  By the end of the day, the kids were performance experts!  They did great!  We having some technical difficulties getting the videos uploaded....I'm hoping they'll be coming soon! :)

They also wrote in their journals about why Martin Luther King, Jr. was special.

We are also looking forward to the 100th day of school on Friday.  We've started working on a few 100's day activities.  Today, we solved some math problems with numbers.  We answered things like:  what number is 10 more than 74, or one less than 56, or between 35 and 37, or has 2 tens and 3 ones.  The kids enjoyed completing this with partners, and then they found a mystery picture in a 100's chart with the numbers that they solved!

Megan

We got the chance to host Megan Christiansen in our classroom for the 2nd week of the Winter Explorium.  The kids enjoyed reading with Megan and showing her all of our routines and skills!  They'll miss her this week!  We have another high school student joining us for the first hour of the day now too!  Ashley Meade will be joining us for reading groups from now until the end of the year.  Both girls are interested in elementary education, so we are proud to encourage them!

A New Year!

We came back to school to enjoy a movie in Pocahontas.  We got to see Wreck-It, Ralph.  Fun was had by all!

We have also started working on shapes.  We are discussing 2-D closed shapes and their attributes.  We will begin working with 3--D shapes next week.

We also made some beautiful snowflakes to take to the Newell Good Samaritan Center for our visit.  We went to the Center on Friday, January 11th to play a game of bowling.  As usual, a good time was had by all!

We are looking forward to having Megan Christiansen in our classroom next week as part of her January term class.  Megan is interested in elementary education, so she is going to spend the week learning the ins and outs of a first grade classroom.

Christmas Party

A peek back before Christmas......  We were supposed to go to a movie in Pocahontas to see Wreck-It Ralph on Thursday, December 20th, but didn't get to go because of the blizzard warning - so we got to go on our first day back in January!   We returned to school on Friday, December 21st to enjoy a fun-filled day!  After lunch, we got to have a class party.  Many thanks to Jami, Violet, and Charlotte for planning a class party complete with snacks, cutting snowflakes and covering them with glitter, and a game of cards in the basket.  We also got to open our Christmas presents that have been causing all kids of anticipation under the Christmas tree.

Jami got stuck to the glue!
