Good Samaritan Visit

We made it through 1st quarter and conferences. Thank you for taking time to visit with me and to see your child's progress so far. First grade is a HUGE year - shaping reading and writing as well as forming mathematical problem solving skills!

We got to visit the Good Samaritan Center on Thursday for the first time. We got a great tour from Diane. We got to trick or treat at various spots in the center too. We visited the offices, the living room areas, the dining room, the game rooms, the salon, the spas, the laundry area, and the bedrooms. Here are a few pictures of our visit!

8th Grade Buddies

We have some new buddies in our classroom. We have partnered up with Mrs. Devereaux's 8th grade group. This week, the 8th graders came to our classroom to make some Halloween crafts with us and introduce themselves. We are hoping to buddy up a couple of times a month with them. Watch our blog, as well as the school newsletter for further details!

We also enjoyed our last football reader today. Thanks, Bryce! We are so proud of the Mustangs for their regular season! Keep it up in the playoffs!

We've had lots of fun talking about spiders this week! There are some great spider facts hanging in our windows!

Parent-teacher conferences will be Monday and Tuesday evening from 5:00-8:30. Please double check your conference time and come on time - we only have 15 minutes to discuss the past 44 days of school with your child! :o)

Farming Community

In case you haven't seen them - I've recently caught up the blog with LOTS of pictures! There are pictures from homecoming dress up days, the parade, the pumpkin patch, and football readers.

This week, we took advantage of the beautiful fall weather to walk up to main street. We sat on the curb to enjoy something that "city people" can't appreciate. We tallied the modes of transportation that we saw. With the elevator just 1 block away from our spot on the curb, we got to see tractors, wagons, semis, trucks, cars, a bike, and even a golf cart! We have spent some time in our classroom making groups of 5's and 10's. This activity was a fun way for us to get out and see what's happening in our community, as well as practice our tally making! This is what small-town schools are all about! I LOVE it! :o)

Football Readers

Each Friday we get to have a high school football player come read a book to us. This is one of the favorite activities of the week! The kids enjoy asking the kids a few questions. We are very thankful to Coach Wilken and the great Mustang players for spending part of their busy Fridays with us!

Pumpkin Patch

We visited Pumpkin Hollow! It was a VERY windy day, but we had a great trip. The kids enjoyed the hay ride and each got to choose their own pumpkin to take home. We also got to pick out a large pumpkin for our classroom - they chose a good one! We are looking forward to carving it soon! They also had a pony for the kids to pet, as well as a "kiddie pool" filled with corn for the kids to dig and hide their pumpkins in! This was a great day!

Kids reading on the bus to pass the time during the 35 minute bus trip.

These are random pictures - so see if you can find your student!
